Electric vehicle charging stations are a big investment for any business. Installing EV charging stations helps attract electric vehicle drivers to park and charge at your parking facility.  The Government of Canada is supporting the development of a coast-to-coast network of charging stations, to help deploy over 47,000 EV charging stations across the country.

Natural Resources Canada was provided federal funding for this project through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). This project provides funding for the installment of electric vehicle charging stations and hydrogen refuelling stations across Canada.

On top of the Government of Canada’s incentive program, some provinces have also created incentive programs for those that install electric vehicle charging stations.

ONTARIO
The provides funding for the installment of publicly available electric vehicle charging stations in Ontario. The EV ChargeON program aims to increase the number of publicly available charging stations, make public EV chargers more accessible and affordable, and encourage more individuals to switch to EVs.

This provincial incentive is currently not open for applications.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

The offers rebates for public Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs), the program is open to British Columbia businesses, non-for-profit, local governments, indigenous communities, utilities or public sector organizations located and operating in B.C. The Government of Canada ZEVIP is not stackable with the Go Electric Public Charger Program. The program aims to increase the number of installed public charging and hydrogen fueling stations in their communities.

This provincial rebate is open for applications.

Companies registered with Registraire des entreprises du Québec can benefit from for projects involving the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in the workplace. The use of these EV charging stations would be for any of the company's electric vehicles, employees and, under certain conditions, visitors.

This provincial financial assistance is open for applications.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

The program allows qualified workplaces to apply for a rebate towards their purchase and install or qualifying Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations at workplaces, for light-duty electric fleet vehicles, in public places or on-street. The EV charging stations must be made available for public use or employees of the applicant.

This provincial rebate is open for applications.

NEW BRUNSWICK

The electric vehicle charging station rebates for businesses available in the province of New Brunswick are provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

PEI encourages businesses across the province to install electric vehicle charging stations for business and public use. The will support up to 75% of eligible costs for businesses, academic, and community organizations for installing EV chargers.

This provincial funding program is temporarily closed for applications.

NOVA SCOTIA

Currently, the province of Nova Scotia has two programs available the and the . The EV Ready Approach requires an approved EV Ready Plan to apply for the rebate, which requires a minimum of one EV Ready parking space per residential unit of an existing building and for a new building all residential parking spaces must be EV Ready. The Standalone EV Charger rebate is to assist with installing EV charging stations for a building that is smaller and has more straightforward charging requirements than the EV Ready Charger program.

These provincial rebates are open for applications.

ALBERTA

Currently, there are no provincial incentives or rebates available in Alberta at this time.

By leveraging these programs, parking property owners not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions but also attract a growing market of electric vehicle drivers. Embracing these incentives can offset the installation costs, making it more achievable for businesses to acquire EV charging stations.
